How often should I have my HVAC system maintained?

Heat pumps and air conditioners require a professional tune-up twice a year, in the spring and fall. Regular maintenance maximizes the lifecycle of your system and guards against common equipment failures. Inspections should include ductwork, pipes, dampers, valves, the chimney, registers, fans, compressors, coils, and refrigerant lines.

Should I use a programmable thermostat?

How do I choose the right air filter?

Standard filters keep your system and ductwork clean but don't significantly improve indoor air quality. A media air cleaner improves dust and particle removal up to seven times over a standard filter, and pleated media filters can remove everything from dust to airborne viruses. Replace disposable filters at least once a month, and wash reusable filters monthly.

System sizing depends on square footage, insulation, window configuration, geographic location, and duct arrangement.
