What Should I Look For in a New Furnace?
Do you feel it’s time to replace the old furnace in your Folsom, CA, home? If your answer is yes, consider several factors for choosing a new furnace. Taking the time to research and learn about the various furnace options available will help get the unit you need.
Determine the Right Size for Your Home
The size of your new furnace matters when it comes to efficiently heating your home. If the furnace is too big, it’ll run constantly and cause your heating bills to rise. If the furnace is too small, the heater will struggle to keep your home warm.
Both of these issues can cause a premature breakdown of your heating system. When you decide on a new heater, our knowledgeable experts will come to your home and perform a calculation. As a result, we’ll determine the proper size heating system for your unique living situation.
Look at the Fuel Efficiency Rating
Modern furnaces run much more efficiently than older models. Furnaces today use a measurement rating called AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) to determine their energy efficiency. Eighty percent is the minimum efficiency rating. That means the furnace will waste 20 percent of the fuel it uses. Look for a furnace that has an AFUE rating of at least 90 percent. Any number above that will increase energy savings. For even greater heating efficiency, consider a heat pump instead.
Consider a Packaged HVAC System
If you live in a smaller home or don’t have a basement with at least a crawl space, ask us about investing in a packaged system as opposed to a split system. A packaged system contains both the heating and cooling components that all sit in one outdoor unit. Our Trane packaged systems come as a gas-electric, a heat pump or a hybrid dual fuel system. These systems are quiet, efficient and space-saving.
