Use Airwave Option
If you have an Energy Star-certified smart thermostat, you can use the Airwave feature to save even more money on your energy bill. With Airwave, your thermostat will automatically adjust the temperature when you're not home, so you're not wasting energy heating or cooling an empty house. This is a great feature to use if you work long hours or frequently travel.
Change the Temperature Gradually
If you need to change the temperature on your smart thermostat, do it gradually instead of all at once. For example, if you want to lower the temperature by five degrees, set the thermostat to four degrees lower than the current temperature and then wait a few minutes before setting it to five degrees lower. This will help your HVAC system adjust gradually and won't put as much strain on it.
Use the Scheduling Function
Most smart thermostats have a scheduling function that allows you to set different temperatures for different times of the day. This is a great way to save energy because you can ensure your house is only heated or cooled when needed. For example, if you usually leave for work at 8:00 in the morning, you can set the thermostat to turn off the heat at 7:45. so you're not wasting energy heating an empty house.

With a Wi-Fi thermostat, you can use your smartphone or tablet to change the temperature, set the schedule or even turn the power off completely.
